In January 2023, five local Green Party members decided in a zoom meeting that it was worth trying to resurrect a GP group in our area.
The last group, East Lincolnshire Green Party, sadly ceased to exist around 2017, simply through a lack of people to keep it going. It’s a fact that people get older or have health problems and without a constant stream of new, younger blood to take over, clubs, societies and, indeed, political groups go to the wall.
Why do we think we can do better than our predecessors? The simple answer is that we don’t. We just felt that with the awful politics that we’ve all had to suffer during the past years, it was worth trying again. If people won’t vote for change now, when will they?
During the local elections of May 2023 we were proud to support Robert Watson when he became the only Green councillor on East Lindsey District Council. He was voted in because of his support of local fights against outside influence, because he is a born and bred locally and because he believes in truly honest politics, putting people first, sadly a rare thing in politics these days.
Robert will be standing as our Green Party candidate on July 4th and we wish him the best of luck up against the big money. The quote (probably not by Einstein) says ‘Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results’. That is what voters have been doing for years. Surely it must be time to change, time to try a different path?
Our hope is that Robert’s candidature will raise the profile of the Green Party in East Lindsey and the constituency of Louth and Horncastle, encouraging new and existing members to become more involved. We desperately need new blood to keep our fledgling group going and to keep fighting for a fairer, more equal society.
If you are not already a member, please consider joining. There are no major funders of the Green Party, therefore no vested interest or outside influence. All of our meetings are open to non members as well. If in doubt, come to a meeting and see if it’s for you.
